Biophotonics and Bioengineering Lab

The research of the Biophotonics and Bioengineering Lab focuses on developing optical imaging and spectroscopy techniques for clinical diagnosis and therapeutic response monitoring within the context of translational research, which aims to merge biomedical engineering device development with clinical practice. Centre for Interactive Multimedia Information Mining

Center for Interactive Multimedia Information Mining (CIM2) is a research facility associated with TMU Multimedia Laboratory. It offers a state-of-the-art virtual reality system (CAVE), with stereoscopic vision, and optical tracking for real-time interaction. The CIM2 aims to provide an operational link between engineering, life and technological sciences, as well as between research and industry.

The Computer and Network Security Laboratory conducts research on role-based access control modeling, web security, information flow control and security in wireless sensor and mesh networks. The laboratory director is Dr. Truman Yang.

Computer Networks Laboratory conducts research in the areas of traffic control and admission control in resilient packet ring technology, proportional differentiation, IP routing, QoS, traffic engineering, overlay and content distribution. The laboratory director is Dr. Muhammad Jaseemuddin.

Computer Vision and Image Processing Laboratory

Computer Vision and Image Processing Laboratory designs and develops algorithms in non-linear, medical and adaptive image processing, texture segmentation, character recognition, image and video coding and 3D computer vision.

Dependable Autonomic Systems Laboratory focuses dependability and performance evaluation of distributed systems, software performance engineering, mathematical modeling using fault-trees, Markov models, Petri nets and layered queueing theory. The laboratory director is Dr. Olivia Das.

Embedded and Reconfigurable Systems Laboratory conducts research in adaptive reconfigurable platforms, automated high-level architectural synthesis of embedded systems, self-testing and self-restoration. The laboratory is co-directed by Dr. Vadim Geurkov and Dr. Lev Kirischian

Maternal Fetal Imaging (MFI) Laboratory specializes in the engineering and clinical applications of advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to facilitate understanding of fetal development and materno-fetal physiology. The laboratory director is Dr. Dafna Sussman.

Microsystems Research Laboratory supports research in ultra-low power analog-to-digital data converters, high-speed parallel and serial data links over wire channels, power harvest and calibration of passive wireless microsystems, systems-on-a-chip, and networks-on-a-chip. The laboratory is co-directed by Dr. Gul Khan and Dr. Fei Yuan.

Multimedia and Distributed Computing Laboratory focuses on distributed computing that provides infrastructure for the processing, indexing and retrieval of multimedia data and for the testing, analysis and design of fault-tolerant computing. The laboratory directed by Dr. Dimitri Androutsos.

Optimization Problems Research and Applications Laboratory investigates the theory, implementation, application and development of advanced VLSI design techniques.

Power and Energy Analysis Research Laboratory

The PEAR Laboratory has been pursuing innovative research in analysis and optimization of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems; protection and stability of modern power systems; modeling and integration renewable energy resources, including wind and solar energy; Energy Storage; and management and consumption of bulk electricity. The PEAR lab currently has several active projects funded by utilities such as Hydro One, Powerstream and Toronto Hydro on Short Circuit Studies, Energy Storage, Renewable Generation Modeling, Distribution System Planning, etc. The laboratory director is Dr. Bala Venkatesh.

TMU Intelligent Communication and Computing conducts active research in the areas of optical and wireless communications. Mainly signal processing for wireless communications, radio over fiber systems, wireless sensor networks and RFID, wireless for aerospace systems and communications for underground environments. TMU Multimedia Research Laboratory is engaged in researching basic and applied aspects of multimedia processing. The applied research focuses on media indexing, coding, transmission and retrieval, and human computer interaction. The laboratory is directed by Dr. Ling Guan and Dr. Naimul Khan.

Signal Analysis Research Laboratory has two main areas of focus: medical image and signal analysis research, which is undertaken by the miSAR team, and multimedia information and signal analysis research, which is undertaken by the MISAR team. The laboratory is directed by Dr. Sri Krishnan.

Sensorimotor Processing and Integration for Rehabilitation, Adaptation and Learning Lab investigates VR tools to assist the elderly and impaired, studies the human balance control system and models human adaptation & learning.
